What is a Dental Crown?
Dental crowns are a common cosmetic solution to protect and restore vulnerable or damaged teeth. From a dental health perspective, this type of restorative prosthetic may be used if the patient has a large cavity which if left untreated, will cause further damage to the health of the tooth. This type of treatment also has a cosmetic application as it can be used to cover over imperfections, gaps, or uneven teeth.
What Does Crown Dentistry Involve?
Typically, receiving a dental crown at our Midtown New York clinic involves fabricating a tooth shaped cap and fixing it to the damaged tooth using dental cement. This process requires two appointments, at the first the dentist will take an impression of the tooth for fabrication, during the second appointment, the crown is inserted. This procedure is virtually painless as the dentist will administer a local anesthetic to numb the area and ensure the patient remains comfortable while the process takes place.
